Description
Our KT1600 street GTR R35 4.1L Stroker short blocks feature ALL-NEW components and are precision assembled to the highest tolerances. Each one of our engines comes with a full blueprint and a list of all parts and measurements that went into the build.
This is a great starting point for any serious GTR build and takes out the guesswork out of the most critical phase.
When you purchase an engine package from us, you can rest assured that you are getting the following services with it:
All crank journals precision measured and matched to the corresponding bearing.
We measure each journal and then use only individual bearings that match each cylinder. While most builders use a standard or extra clearance rod and main bearing set where all the bearings are the same...we refuse to do so since R35 street engines require special attention to oil clearances. Instead we use individual race bearings that are graded, matched to each cylinder and then recorded in the blueprint. While being more expensive, it ensures that each crankshaft main and rod journal has the same oil clearance and the same load bearing tolerance under high boost. This is especially beneficial for street engines that must endure long drives and high oil temperatures before even making a pass.
Precision balanced rotating assembly
We balance our rotating assembly and add Mallory weight as required to obtain a near zero-balance. A complete balance sheet is provided with each engine to ensure that the rotating assembly is vibration free. This engine package is rated to 9000rpms safely for street use.
Stretched rod bolts
We don't just torque our connecting rods and hope for the best! Instead we use the correct method of stretching each of the rod bolts to the manufacturer's recommended value, thus ensuring that each bolt has the exact same clamping force and is not affected by friction or other factors that come with using torque to tighten rod bolts.
Precision-cut bearings
A little-known fact is that the bearings in the R35 have to be machined (narrowed) when using a billet crankshaft. This is necessary because billet crankshafts feature extra material around the journals and this creates a fillet at the ends that does not sit flat with the bearings. We have special tools and a machining process that ensures that every bearing is machined precisely to clear this fillet without damaging the bearing coated surface. This is a critical process since a bearing that is not narrow enough will dig into the crankshaft fillets and one that is too narrow will have poor load capacity.
Precision line honing
An often overlooked step when upgrading a VR38 block with ARP main studs is the line honing process. The ARP main studs have a stronger clamping force and thus distort the factory round shape of the main bores and this requires a correction using CNC machines that can hone back to a round shape without taking out too much material.
We also have proprietary-made CNC deck plates that we use when line honing the block to simulate the distortion caused by the head bolts.
Factory correct sealer and gaskets
We only use the recommended sealer and gaskets in our engine builds. This is a critical step in the build of a VR38 since most components are mated using sealer and orings. The use of the correct sealant, applied in the right quantities ensures a leak-free engine.
